Earplugs for snoring · 2026 · Tested beside a snorer

The best earplugs when your partner snores.

This is a separate test and a separate question. Not "which pair blocks most" but "with which do you wake up less often". We wore twelve pairs for eight weeks exclusively in bed beside someone who snores, and testers logged every morning how many times they had woken.

Testers woke least often with this pair — not because it blocks hardest, but because it was the only one that stayed in all night. The rest of the field dropped out somewhere around 2am.

  • The only pair that lasted a full night for every tester
  • 24 dB attenuation, measured by the independent German lab PZT GmbH
  • Nothing protrudes: nothing to catch when you turn over
  • Soft medical-grade silicone, washable, up to 100 uses
  • Three sizes in the box — in our test that is what decided the seal
  • You will still hear the snoring, just quieter: this is a plug, not soundproofing

Why we counted wake-ups

Snoring does not wake you evenly through the night. It wakes you at the moments it suddenly gets louder — and that is the only number that means anything.

So instead of comparing stated decibels we asked testers for one thing: write down the number of wake-ups in the morning. Over eight weeks that came to more than four hundred nights.

We scored the number of wake-ups, the seal after changing position and whether the pair lasted until morning. Attenuation was an entry requirement, not a scoring criterion.

Ratings, briefly

Earplugs sold in the US usually carry an NRR figure, set by the EPA. BOLLSEN publishes a European EN 352-2 measurement instead — 24 dB, measured by an independent German laboratory. The two numbers are produced by different test methods and are not interchangeable, so we quote the figure that was actually measured rather than converting it into something it is not.

Will earplugs silence snoring completely?

No, and nothing will. A passive plug takes around 24 dB off across the band, so loud snoring drops to the level of background noise. Testers fell asleep with it — but they could hear that something was there. Anyone expecting silence will be disappointed whatever the brand.

When is snoring worth mentioning to a doctor?

Loud snoring with pauses in breathing, or daytime sleepiness in the person who snores, is something to raise with a physician. That is about the snorer, not about your earplugs, and it is not something a product test can assess.

The fewest wake-ups across eight weeks. That was the whole difference.

The test

After more than four hundred nights beside a snoring partner, the BOLLSEN Life+ had the lowest average wake-up count in the field.

A pair that falls out at 2am blocks nothing for the rest of the night.

They stay put when you turn over

The most common cause of a wake-up in our test was not "too loud" but "it fell out". Stemmed models worked loose when testers changed position. This pair held in the canal all night.

Three sizes is not marketing

Sealing depends on fit, and ears differ more than people expect. Two testers moved to the smallest size and their wake-up count halved. With one-size models that option does not exist.

Still usable in the morning

Washable, up to 100 uses, aluminum case. With disposable foam, testers started economizing after two weeks and putting in an already-used pair — which showed in the results.

More than four hundred nights. One pair.

Rooth C&P

less than our #1
★★★★☆ 4.1
  • Moulds over the ear canal instead of sitting inside it, so rolling onto your side does not break the seal
  • You re-shape it every night, so the fit is only as good as your last attempt at shaping it
  • The putty collects lint and hair the moment it is put down outside its case
3

Disposable foam plugs

★★★★☆ 3.7
  • Highest stated attenuation and a minimal price per pair
  • After two weeks testers were reusing already-used pairs
  • Rolling them in the dark is a lottery

  • The best seal immediately after insertion
  • Soften in a warm bed and catch in hair

How we tested

12pairs bought at retail
400+nights beside a snoring partner
3criteria: wake-ups, seal after turning over, lasting until morning

We bought twelve pairs at retail and wore them for eight weeks exclusively in bed beside someone who snores. Testers logged the number of wake-ups each morning — more than four hundred nights in total. Not one pair came from a manufacturer.

The winner’s attenuation was measured by an independent German laboratory to EN 352-2: 24 dB overall, most at high tones and least at low. Snoring sits low in the band, so a passive plug takes less off it than off high sounds — which is exactly why it does not disappear.

TrustScore comparison · 7 September 2026

Four earplug brands on Trustpilot. One is rated Excellent.

Trustpilot gives every company it lists a TrustScore out of 5 and a rating band. We looked up the branded reusable earplugs that appear in our tests. Only one of them reaches the top band, Excellent.

Why 4.3 and not 5.0

Excellent starts at 4.3 on Trustpilot. A perfect 5.0 usually means a company has collected very few ratings, so one more review moves the score. BOLLSEN is the only brand here that reaches it, on a profile you can open and check yourself.

Method. TrustScores read from each brand’s public Trustpilot profile on 7 September 2026. Where a brand runs several country profiles, we used the one with the most reviews, so every row shows a global profile rather than a local one. Brands with fewer than 250 reviews are not shown. Star ratings are the ones Trustpilot displays, rounded to the nearest half star. Trustpilot bands: Excellent 4.3 to 5.0, Great 3.8 to 4.2, Average 3.0 to 3.7. Scores change as new reviews come in.
